Vintage is Always in Style

I’ve never been one to wear a lot of jewelry but I do enjoy wearing one or two pieces when I’m going out for dinner or to a party. Diamonds don’t catch my eye nearly as much as cameo lockets and rings do. There’s just something familiar about vintage jewelry that makes me feel special.

This type of jewelry can be difficult to find unless you settle for the costume type. I much rather spend the money on authentic cameo rings rather than pay less for cheap look-alikes. I have a rather extensive collection that I treasure and only wear on special occasions.

I guess I’m just picky when it comes to certain items; it’s not just my jewelry that I like in vintage as I’m rather fond of many antique type items you can’t get just anywhere. I recently paid a rather nice sum of money for a vintage classic pocket watch that I gave my father for his birthday. It dated back to the early 19th century and was in wonderful condition. I thought of having something inscribed on it but feared it would hurt its value. My father was very pleased with the piece and displays it proudly.

Over the years I have looked for out of the ordinary items to give as Christmas gifts. I feel that they mean more to the person they are given to if you put some effort into finding just the right gift for them. Where most people look to give the newest technology I, however, like to bring back the past.

My daughter has carried on my taste for unique jewelry as she owns several pieces of nature leaf jewelry that are one-of-a-kind items. She gets it honest from me; I guess all those years that I took her shopping with me rubbed off.

A True Birthday Gift

My first granddaughter was born last month and I felt the very strong desire to begin a tradition that I hope gets passed down for many generations to come. On the day of her birth I presented a set of cameo rings; one for my granddaughter and one for my daughter-in-law. I also bought an identical one for me to wear.

As I get older I have grown very fond of the old, vintage lockets and jewelry that you might find in antique stores. I’ve collected a great deal of it in the past few years and it has gone up in value. I don’t wear most of the pieces I’ve acquired; I keep them in a display case just to show them off. I will pass them down to my children and hopefully they will, in turn, pass them down as well.

I have found a great deal of the pieces I own from online specialty stores. The great thing about the store I use most often is if I am looking for a particular piece I can let them know and they will try to find it for me. I acquired three vintage pocket watches that way and I’d probably still be looking for them if it weren’t for the good people I shop with online.

It’s important to know what you are looking for when purchasing pieces such as antique or vintage lockets, rings, or watches. It is best to do some research on what to look for when buying such items; there are plenty of fakes out there but one can easily spot them if you know what to look for. I’m very pleased with the cameo rings I bought for my granddaughter, her mom, and myself. I think it is traditions like this that will last for many, many years to come.
